When a low-voltage assembly is specified for a hospital, a data hall, or a water-treatment plant, the difference between a compliant panel and a non-compliant one rarely shows up on a quiet day. It shows up during a short circuit.

What IEC 61439 actually verifies

The standard checks temperature rise, dielectric properties, short-circuit withstand, and the integrity of protective circuits — as a complete assembly, not as a bag of certified parts. A cabinet full of quality components is not the same as a tested assembly.

Design verification vs. routine verification

Design verification proves the assembly type can handle the stresses it claims. Routine verification then confirms each individual panel leaving the floor matches that verified design. Both are required; skipping either leaves a gap you only discover under load.

Why it protects the buyer, not the builder

Certification exists so the specifier doesn't have to take the manufacturer's word for it. For critical infrastructure, that documented, testable assurance is the whole point — and it's the baseline MBI builds to on every board.
